Target

One of the Target workers today came up to Harrison and said he was the quietest baby in the store. He usually really is pretty chill when we go out places. Sure, he'll have his moments, but I was very flattered that Harrison got such a compliment today.

Giggles are coming a bit easier. He thinks it is just hilarious when I sniff him and call him smelly. Such action results in Harrison grabbing at, and thus, rearranging my hair.

But he's happy.

Our trip to the cabin went so well. He was so good and slept superbly in his pack n play. Makes me confident for our weekend away at con. We've finally made a decision. Harrison will be staying with us until Saturday evening, then spend one night at grandma and grandpas. We're all so excited for con!

What day is it?

I went through all of yesterday thinking it was Monday. Our trip to the zoo on real Monday must have thrown me off.

It just occurred to me that Harrison eats like a hobbit. Breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, luncheon, afternoon tea (milk), dinner, supper... occasionally a midnight snack. He's also short and has large feet for his baby size. All he's missing is excessive amounts of foot hair. Otherwise, I think Harrison is a hobbit.

Anyway. Harrison seemed to like the zoo, though it really tuckered him out. On the way to the car he pulled his burp rag over his face so it would be dark. Yes, he did this on purpose. Yes, he's done it before. He gave me grumpy looks as I transferred him from the stroller back into the carseat and was back asleep within seconds.

I think while at the zoo, his favorite exhibits were the zebra (who came right to the fence), the polar bear (who was being silly), and the fish. I liked the giraffe.

We'll be going back in the future once more of the exhibits are outside and opened up. They're still recovering from winter.

I also learned Harrison doesn't like taking a bottle from me.

Harrison tried carrots yesterday for the first time, big 5 month food change. First, I let him decide. Green beans or carrots. The decision seemed to torment him and it took him minutes to finally reach for the orange pack. Once in his mouth, Harrison regretted the decision. His face was sour and he clamped his lips shut and wouldn't let more that three tastes enter his mouth. We switched back to oatmeal and he resumed cramming the spoon in his mouth with his fist. He'll try some more carrots today, maybe it will be less of a shock.

Happy Wednesday! (It is Wednesday, right?)

Munchkin

We have a teething baby. He's not too fussy yet, but I can tell he gets a little uncomfortable and he wants to chew on everything. Also, the drool. He's giving Cinder a run for her money.

Speaking of Cinder, we have a sick puppy. She had diarrhea for the last two days and did it once in the house, which she wouldn't do if she could avoid it. We now have her on bland dog food and some meds. She probably ate something outside that was bad for her. I think she's feeling better now.

I've been meaning to update for about a week now, time just keeps getting away from me.

Harrison is also now weaned from swaddling. He goes to sleep (often reluctantly) in his little sleep sack. He still has to wear mittens, however. Even with keeping his nails trimmed, he has a tendency to rub his eyes and scratch his nose in the process.

He's just the cutest baby ever! I can hardly stand it! #biased

Overwhelmed

Ever have days where you're completely overwhelmed? Of course you have. You're only human. (Unless you're not! Dundundun!)

This was Thursday for me.

Now, I didn't sleep poorly, but I was soooo tired. I was exhausted the whole day and didn't get any work done (aside from baby watching).

Part of my problem? I can't nap. I'll try. But I will lay in bed, wide awake, but completely exhausted for the full 45 or so minutes that Harrison will nap in his crib. Then I drag myself out when the babe wakes and play with/feed/change him.

I usually sleep fairly well at night, but we'll occasionally have nights where he wakes up 5 times. Like last night. We changed his schedule to go to a friends house. We left early, Harrison slept in the car on the way back, we woke him, fed him and got him all cozy for bed. 10:00, wide awake. Took some coaxing to go to sleep. Then he woke crying at 11:30 and every 1-2 hours after. He mostly put himself back to sleep or just needed his paci, but I still woke up every time and was up to feed him at 5:00.

Now for a day of baby time and sewing! I love being home with Harrison, even when I get so tired I can't think straight.

Also, Harrison loves my camera phone.
