Playing Pretend

It has begun. Harrison plays pretend.

When I was young, I was a master at pretend. I turned it into an artform. Full costumes with elaborate stories, often fueled by the tv and movies I watched. It eventually translated into my current love of cosplay where I feel like I still often play pretend.

So far, Harrison pretends to go to school or the grocery store. We just set up his play chairs so he could drive to Target. He has a tote bag that I just gave him, it's a little like mine so he takes that "shopping".

He also loves to play "school". He's very excited to start preschool on the fall and ECFE is his favorite day of the week (it's usually a chase scene and a battle to get him to leave).

Just now, he said he was making a movie. About Halloween. It has pumpkins and Curious George.

Sometimes, Sam takes part in Harrison's stories. Sam went to school and target with him today. And Harrison made him some pretend hot chocolate.

And yesterday, Harrison built a cushion mountain and helped the pups from Paw Patrol. I heard him talking to Marshall, the Dalmatian, when I went upstairs for a minute. But he won't actually play like that in front of me yet. He keeps the talking to himself at a minimum when I'm nearby. I hear him do it when I leave the room though.

It's fun to watch him play out these stories. I'm excited for the day when they are less rooted in realism and he plays superheroes or Star Wars.  Then I can make full costumes to go with them!

Sam is a little mover and will probably be walking in a month or two. He's also becoming very clever. Whenever I nurse him in the living room, I use a round pillow to support my arm. When he got tired the other day, he dragged the pillow over to me and whined at me. He wanted to eat and take a nap. It was pretty cute.

He still nurses a lot at night and I think we're going to try weaning that this weekend. I'm nervous. Sam is stubborn and I like sleeping, so I feed him just to get him back in bed.

We're about to tackle another weekend of house prep. And Monday is full with Nym getting her splint out and Harrison has his 3 year old screening (checking his development). Wish us luck!

The cushions are never on the couch anymore, but whatever. They're cute. :)

Broken Jaw?

Well, I was hoping to update a cute, happy post with the boys being adorable. But no. My dog broke my cats jaw.

A scuffle over (most likely) food resulted in Nymeria with a lopsided mouth. (Cinder is on my naughty list- she's usually so good with the cats). I didn't notice until just over two hours after that that her mouth was not closing properly. She had hidden behind the couch all evening. Matt was out with friends and the boys were asleep. I went into a little panic. I'd never had to use the emergency vet care before.

My mom was able to come over and sit with the boys while I took Nym to the vet. They took X-rays and said it's most likely broken but could be a "luxation" (don't know exactly what that means). Either way, it will most likely require surgery. She goes in Monday for more X-rays and possible surgery. As for the weekend, she just has to be careful, keep her mostly confined and on a wet food diet. They muzzle dogs when they break a jaw, but it doesn't quite work for a cat.

These non-blurry pictures took forever to get. You can kind of see her lip hanging out in the first one. She seems okay and it's been hard keeping her calm. She just tried playing and biting my hand!

The boys seem to be taking turns getting sick. This week was Harrison. He didn't slow down for a second, but his nose was really gross.

Sammy has started having mini tantrums. He is very grumpy when he does not get his way. You try and take something away from him and he'll try to bite you. And with a third tooth coming in, it's serious business.

He also tried tackling his big brother the other day. Harrison was confused, but Sam just wanted to climb all over him.

We're officially getting our house ready to sell. Today my dad helped move things to a storage unit and I removed all the wallpaper in the bathroom. Removing wallpaper could be used as a form of torture. My hands hurt now.

I'm both excited and nervous for the move. I want some specific things in our next home that might be harder to find. I am also sad about leaving this house. It's been a great home, but we're outgrowing it and it feels so cramped. We also just have too much stuff...

Harrison built a tunnel. This is how he watched Curious George the other day.

Having a picnic with Ghost. He's very into picnics right now.

This is how a toddler eats grapes. With a head lamp.

My boooooots! So boot! Much wow!

Oops.

Please wish us luck in our house fixing endeavors and for Nymeria's quick recovery! My poor kitty baby!
